In 1885, Brussels (Belgium) hosted 50 European tram operators, deciding to set up the first European Transport Association. Later on, it brought together all sorts of public transport companies from the whole world.
At present, UITP is the largest transport organization to unite 2900 municipal and regional transport companies and operators of over 90 countries. Since November 5, 1997 Tbilisu Metro Ltd has been a full member of IUTP.
On May 20, 2007, Helsinki (Finland) hosted 57th UITP World Congress/General Assembly in which more than 2000 delegates participated from all the countries of the world. Rome Metro General Director Roberto Cavalier was re-elected President of UITP for the second term. Levan Koplatadze, the General Director of Tbilisi Metro Ltd, represented Georgia in the Helsisnki-hosted UITP World Congress. |
